Play for Good. Play Responsibly.
National 50:50 exists to raise money for sports foundations, charities and community organisations while allowing supporters to win exciting cash prizes.
For most people, taking part in a raffle or lottery is an enjoyable way to support a good cause.
However, we recognise that gambling can become a problem for some people. That’s why National 50:50 is committed to encouraging responsible participation and providing safeguards for anyone who feels they need additional support.
Our Approach to Responsible Play
We want National 50:50 to remain affordable, enjoyable and positive.
We encourage everyone who participates to follow a few simple principles:
- Only spend what you can comfortably afford.
- Never borrow money to enter a raffle or lottery.
- Don’t try to recover previous losses by spending more.
- Don’t view lottery participation as a way of making money or solving financial problems.
- Keep track of how much you’re spending.
- Take a break or stop playing if participation stops being enjoyable.
Remember: buying more tickets increases the number of entries you hold, but there is never any guarantee that you will win.
Our Player Safeguards
Age Verification
National 50:50 is a digital-only lottery and we carry out age verification checks on purchases.
You must meet the applicable legal minimum age requirement to participate.
Where necessary, we may request additional information to confirm a person’s age or identity.
If we are unable to satisfactorily verify eligibility, we may prevent the purchase, restrict participation or suspend an account.
Digital Payments
National 50:50 does not accept cash.
Entries are purchased electronically through authorised National 50:50 digital channels.
Digital participation allows us to maintain records of purchases and subscriptions and helps us apply appropriate safeguards to our lottery.
Keeping Control of Your Spending
Individual National 50:50 entries cost £1.
We encourage supporters to decide what they can comfortably afford to spend before entering and to stick to that amount.
If you’re concerned about how much you’re spending, we encourage you to stop participating and consider using our self-exclusion facility.
Monthly Subscriptions
Some supporters choose our monthly subscription, which automatically provides entries into our weekly draws.
Subscriptions can be cancelled at any time.
If you find that automatic participation is encouraging you to spend more than you intended, we recommend cancelling your subscription.
If you feel you need stronger safeguards, you can also ask us to self-exclude you from National 50:50.
Self-Exclusion
Need to Take a Break?
We understand that sometimes simply cancelling a subscription isn’t enough.
National 50:50 therefore provides a self-exclusion facility for people who want us to help prevent them from participating.
Self-exclusion means asking National 50:50 to prevent you from purchasing further lottery entries for a specified period.
There is no charge for self-exclusion.
How Do I Self-Exclude?
You can request self-exclusion by contacting National 50:50 at:
Email: break@national5050.com
Please use the subject: SELF-EXCLUSION REQUEST
We may ask you to provide sufficient information to identify your account and ensure that the exclusion can be correctly applied.
What Happens When I Self-Exclude?
Once your self-exclusion has been processed, we will take reasonable steps to:
- prevent you from purchasing further National 50:50 entries;
- prevent participation through your registered account;
- cancel any active National 50:50 recurring subscription;
- stop future subscription payments as soon as reasonably practicable;
- prevent the creation or use of accounts intended to circumvent your exclusion; and
- remove you from direct marketing relating to National 50:50 lottery participation.
We may retain sufficient information about your self-exclusion to enable us to enforce it and meet our legal and regulatory responsibilities.
How Long Does Self-Exclusion Last?
When requesting self-exclusion, you will be able to select from the exclusion periods made available by National 50:50.
Once your self-exclusion has started, we will not simply remove it because you change your mind during the agreed exclusion period.
This is an important part of making self-exclusion effective.
At the end of the exclusion period, participation will not necessarily restart automatically. We may require you to contact us and complete an appropriate reactivation process before being permitted to participate again.
What About Tickets I’ve Already Purchased?
Self-exclusion prevents future participation.
Entries that were validly purchased and entered into a draw before your self-exclusion became effective will normally remain valid, subject to the National 50:50 Terms & Conditions and applicable regulatory requirements.
If one of those entries subsequently wins, National 50:50 will contact you and deal with the prize in accordance with the applicable rules.
Concerned About Someone Else?
If you’re worried about the gambling behaviour of a friend or family member, you are welcome to contact us for information about our responsible-play safeguards.
However, because of privacy and data-protection requirements, we may not be able to discuss another person’s account or impose self-exclusion on their behalf.
Independent gambling-support organisations can also provide confidential advice to family members and friends affected by someone else’s gambling.
Getting Independent Help
If gambling is causing you concern, affecting your finances, relationships, work or wellbeing, we encourage you to seek independent support.
Free and confidential help is available from recognised UK gambling-support organisations.
National 50:50 will provide links on this page to appropriate independent organisations offering information, advice and support.
Seeking help early can make a real difference.
Our Commitment
National 50:50 has been created to raise funds for good causes.
We want participation to remain:
Affordable. Enjoyable. Responsible.
That’s why we combine fundraising with safeguards including:
- age verification;
- digital-only participation;
- responsible-play information;
- subscription cancellation;
- self-exclusion; and
- appropriate account controls.
If participating stops being enjoyable or you find yourself spending more than you intended, please stop and make use of the support and safeguards available.
